Where Imagination Takes Root: Building a Community Through Play

March 3, 2026

Tucked into Kearneysville is a space built on imagination, connection, and the simple but powerful belief that play shapes childhood in meaningful ways. That vision comes to life inside The Little Treehouse Play Studio, a warm and welcoming environment created by sisters-in-law Stefany and Corinne. Together, they stepped away from their previous careers and took a leap of faith to build something they felt their community truly needed. Their shared goal was to create a place where families could slow down, connect, and experience the joy of meaningful play.

The idea for the studio began during one of Stefany and Corinne’s regular Sunday family dinners. Stefany, a mother of three and a pediatric emergency room nurse, often traveled outside the area in search of enriching, child-friendly play spaces. While she appreciated those locations, she recognized a need closer to home. Families in Jefferson County needed accessible spaces where children could play safely and caregivers could connect. Corinne, who worked as a financial specialist and grew up in a large, close-knit family, shared the same desire to create something centered on belonging and connection.

For Stefany, the studio’s mission is deeply personal. One of her children experiences delayed speech and sensory-seeking behaviors, and her family’s journey through early childhood intervention services reinforced how essential play can be in learning and development. She became passionate about creating a space filled with purposeful, hands-on experiences rather than battery-operated or overstimulating toys. Corinne envisioned the studio as a home away from home where caregivers could relax during play sessions while their children explored, learned, and built lasting memories. Their combined experiences shaped a studio designed to nurture both children and families through intentional play.

The studio’s name reflects the heart of what they hoped to build. For Stefany and Corinne, a treehouse symbolizes imagination, creativity, and adventure. It represents a place where children can transform their surroundings into anything they dream of becoming. From dress-up corners to pretend kitchens and sensory stations, the studio encourages children to lead their own play experiences. This freedom helps foster creativity while allowing children to build confidence and independence at their own pace.

Although the business serves families across the region, opening in Jefferson County was always the goal. As residents themselves, Stefany and Corinne understood what local families were seeking. They selected a Kearneysville location that offered the right atmosphere along with safe, accessible parking and open space for strollers and young children. Every detail of the studio was carefully selected with family convenience and comfort in mind. Their thoughtful planning helps ensure caregivers feel at ease while children explore freely.

Families visiting for the first time often describe an immediate sense of comfort and warmth. Stefany and Corinne intentionally created an environment where caregivers can relax without the pressure of cleaning up or managing structured schedules. The studio is designed to be clean, calm, and welcoming to everyone who walks through the doors. Their mission to inspire creativity, confidence, and self-awareness is reflected in every play structure, activity station, and class offering. The atmosphere encourages children and caregivers to enjoy meaningful time together.

The studio recently reached an exciting milestone by expanding its offerings to include coffee and specialty drinks for caregivers. This addition enhances the welcoming, home-like environment they envisioned while planning the space. It allows parents and caregivers to slow down, recharge, and enjoy a quiet moment while their children explore and create nearby. The new offering reflects their commitment to supporting the entire family experience rather than focusing solely on children’s activities.

The studio provides open play sessions that allow children to explore at their own pace, along with Mommy and Me and Daddy and Me classes that strengthen parent-child bonds. Birthday celebrations and private events give families opportunities to celebrate milestones in a nurturing and imaginative setting. Stefany and Corinne believe these offerings support both childhood development and family connection. They emphasize that children thrive when surrounded by supportive and engaged caregivers who actively participate in their growth.

At the core of the studio is the belief that play is one of the most important ways children develop emotional regulation, creativity, and social skills. On any given day, children can be seen climbing, creating, pretending, and interacting with others while building confidence and independence. Caregivers are encouraged to slow down and participate in these shared experiences. These simple but meaningful moments often strengthen family bonds and create lasting memories.

Community involvement plays a central role in the studio’s mission. Stefany and Corinne collaborate with local businesses and organizations to host events and expand opportunities for families. Partnerships include programs with speech therapy providers, story time collaborations with local bookstores, and creative classes hosted by fellow small businesses. They have also worked with local photographers and continue planning additional collaborations and expanded programming. As the studio grows, they hope to introduce more story times, music sessions, and group activities that strengthen community connections.

Like many small business journeys, bringing the studio to life came with challenges. Stefany and Corinne shared that learning to trust themselves and believe in their vision during moments of uncertainty was one of the most difficult parts of their journey. Despite those doubts, they remained committed to their purpose and found strength in the encouragement of their families and community supporters. Their perseverance allowed their dream to become a welcoming and supportive space for families throughout the region.

The rewards, however, have far outweighed the challenges. Stefany and Corinne describe the joy of watching children’s faces light up when they enter the studio as one of their most meaningful experiences. Whether it is a child’s first visit or their twentieth, excitement and laughter serve as daily reminders of why they began this journey. The gratitude shared by parents and caregivers continues to inspire them to grow and improve.

Looking ahead, Stefany and Corinne hope the studio continues to grow as a space where children can play freely, parents can connect authentically, and families can build lasting relationships. When asked to describe the studio in three words, they chose intentional, cozy, and clean, reflecting the thoughtful environment they have created. More than just a play space, the studio represents two families, two stories, and one shared dream built through imagination, connection, and purposeful play.
