Lathered in Intention: The Story Behind On The Go Soaps and Supplies
May 22, 2025

For Sigourney “Siggie” and Benjamin, co-owners of On The Go Soaps and Supplies, soapmaking isn’t just about cleanliness. It’s about connection—to nature, personal wellness, and the art of creating something beautiful and beneficial by hand. With a focus on integrity, natural ingredients, and small-batch craftsmanship, this handcrafted skincare brand is offering a healthier, more intentional lifestyle. Their Charles Town-based skincare studio is the result of years of travel, transformation, and tenacity fueled by a passion for doing things differently.
Siggie traces the origin of On The Go Soaps to a series of seemingly small, yet deeply impactful moments: a family friend’s incense shop, a chance encounter with a Hawaiian soap maker, and a shared love of fragrance and artistry between herself and Benjamin. Those moments sparked an interest—but it was a health crisis that turned interest into action. Everything shifted in December 2019, when the couple discovered toxic black mold in their Texas home. They lost nearly all their belongings—and gained a new perspective on health, home, and healing. “We decided to purchase a travel trailer and hit the road,” Siggie recalled.
After 10 months in Tampa, they landed on a homestead in Caledonia, Missouri where they crafted their very first batch of soap. It was during a visit to Benjamin’s longtime friend and fellow Marine, Sean Brandenburg, that On The Go Soaps fully came to life as a business. Their stay with the Brandenburg family allowed them to expand their production, establish the brand name, and branch into full-blown entrepreneurship.
Integrity is the cornerstone of their brand. “Since we’ve started our business, we’ve learned many companies (both large & small) are dishonest about making their soap or skincare products they sell,” Siggie explains. The duo is committed to using unadulterated ingredients and crafting every product in-house at their studio. If something doesn't meet their high standards, it's not sold. “We look to care for the person, through the skin; that philosophy makes better products,” Benjamin says. Their vegan and natural formulations are free from parabens, phthalates, and petroleum-based ingredients—and as of 2024, they’ve also partnered with local farmers to incorporate wholesome ingredients like goat's milk, tallow, and beeswax.
The bar soaps—of which they often carry over 50 varieties—remain bestsellers. “Our vegan, luxury bar soaps are the backbone of this business,” Siggie says. Other customer favorites include their Reishi Tallow Cream, luxuriously whipped body butters, and specialty bars like salt and shea. “When our customers or clients visit the storefront—they are immediately taken back by our selection of bar soaps.”
Their mission goes beyond product sales—they aim to educate. “Our best customer is an informed one,” Benjamin shares. “It’s an ongoing process teaching, sharing and revealing the truth about cosmetics and skincare to new and old customers alike.” Looking ahead, the pair have exciting plans, including a new Home Essential Line launching in Summer 2025 with products like dish and laundry detergents, and an expanded “Black Label” grooming line for men. “Men are the most overlooked demographic of cosmetics, but they need it as much as anyone else,” Benjamin notes.
You can find On The Go Soaps at the Leesburg and Front Royal Farmers Markets, the Jefferson County Fair, and local pop-ups at businesses like Pour Choices and Black Dog Coffee. Their storefront in Charles Town is currently open by appointment, with regular hours (12–5 p.m., Thursday–Sunday) beginning June 2025.

What do they hope customers take away from the experience? “I want our customers to have a luxury, spa experience at their home,” says Siggie, “confidently knowing the products they are using on their body and in their home are safe, effective, and one of a kind.” Benjamin adds: “Luxury. I want them to get that SPA experience, as we like to call it, at home.”
