Chris & Evie Lotze Roxley Farms Kearneysville 304-728-7928
For eight years, we enjoyed spending the weekend in our cabin on the Potomac River and then heading back to Washington, DC for another week of work. One day we asked ourselves, why did we stay in DC? After much thought and discussion, we decided to transition into a new lifestyle and career. After several months of looking for a suitable place to settle down, we found the place of our dreams in Kearneysville. Jefferson County met all of our requirements, which included close proximity to the MARC train station, affordable land, a thriving agricultural community, and access to academic and intellectual resources. The rest of our dream fell into place. We commuted by train for a couple more years, while we learned the ABCs of cow/calf operations. We took courses at the County Extension Office, planned land conservation for our farm with the local Natural Resources Conservation Service officials, and took advantage of many fine events and facilities at Shepherd University. We are now in our eighth year of loving our farm in Jefferson County, where we can nurture our souls and nourish our bodies.
