June Open for Business Report - Schonstedt Instrument Company of Kearneysville is one of 36 West Virginia firms awarded export recognition **Gov. Joe Manchin presented the Governor’s Commendation for International Market Entry to representatives of 36 West Virginia businesses. The award honors companies that have successfully exported to a new country in the past year.
The Charles Town Police Department (CTPD) is awarded the Carl E. Nelson Best Practices Award. Charles Town Police lieutenant, Chris Kutcher is bringing national recognition to his department for his work in creating a computer model that logs in and manages evidence and records generated by officers on the street through bar codes. A model for police departments around the country, CTPD was not only innovative by using this technology, they were instrumental in designing the software. Herald Mail Full Story

Having survived the Civil War, the Great Depression, two world wars, and several changes in ownership, the Halltown paperboard manufacturer in Jefferson County marks 140 years of making paper in West Virginia. The Ox Paperboard Co. recycles waste paper from various sources into pulp to make new products. The plant is focusing on recycling local paper products. The company also recycles water used in the papermaking process. Ox Paperboard’s plans for the future call for a nearly $1.5 million capital investment at the facility. ~ www.wvcommerce.org
